POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for supporting the Oracle databases and ensuring their performance, availability and security. Will be responsible for the physical design, configuration and tuning of a critical high volume system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• 15+ years of experience working with relational databases. 10+ years in Database Administration/support in Oracle RDBMS 8i/9i/10g and 11g in 24x7 production environment. Thorough knowledge of Oracle RDBMS 8i, 9i, 10g and 11g environments.
• Knowledge of storage architecture as it relates to physical DB design. Experienced in physical database design using various storage systems.
• Experienced in working in a high pressured environment managing highly visible high volume critical transaction systems.
• Ability to write & tune SQL scripts for data retrieval and reporting.
• Adaptability to changing priorities and flexible workloads. Able to work long hours when required
• Strong communication skills and customer-support focused attitude
• Must be able to interact with all levels of Technical staff and support staff
• The ability to work with minimum supervision to deliver the tasks outlined above
• Ability to identify issues and clearly communicate requirements and resolution to both technical and non-technical team members
• OCP Certification.
• Experienced working in an unix environment preferably AIX.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Ensure availability and performance of the databases. Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure minimum downtime. Work with the System Administration team to ensure the database environment is sufficiently tune.
2. Pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues.
3. Capacity planning and monitoring database growth. Providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
4. Regular database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis and predicting future database resource requirements.
5. Defining database configuration standards related to performance and sizing for both transactional and data warehouse databases.
6. Responsible for the improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
7. Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and costs.
8. Installs, upgrades, configures and evaluates Oracle features and related products.
9. Establishes and maintains sound backup and recover policy and procedures.
10. Responsible for database design and implementation, including all elements of database security implementation, user management and maintenance.
11. Performs general technical troubleshooting, problem solving and consultations to development teams.
12. Manages database using Oracle Enterprise Manager and other third party Admin tools.
13. Create shell scripts for task automation
14. Mentoring and knowledge transfer to other DBAs
15. Participate in rotational on call schedule and provide 24x7 support as required.
